COME HOME TO PARK CITY, UTAH
Park City was incorporated as a city in 1884. The mountains’ copious silver veins attracted explorers from around the world in the late 1860s. During its mining years, the mountains surrounding Park City produced $400 million in silver and created 23 millionaires, including William Randolph Hearst. With falling mineral prices in the 1930s, the thriving years ended and residents of Park City recognized what would later be called The Greatest Snow on Earth .
Today, Park City is a unique blend of the old and new. Park City’s Main Street reflects the old mining charm where many buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Home to everything from casual family-style eateries to award-winning fine dining, the town is a gourmet center. Park City also offers a vibrant nightlife with many bars, pubs, and nightclubs. Getting around is easy thanks to the free bike and ski-friendly Bus System. You can read more or visit the Transit Map Timetables from our Park City Links Page .
The average elevation within Park City ranges from 6,500 to 10,000 feet above sea level (7,000′ at Main Street).

PARK CITY ♦ PAST PRESENT
Long before Park City Utah became a world class mountain resort, host for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, and a great place to buy real estate, it was famous as a silver mining town. In late October 1868, soldiers climbed over the mountains from Big Cottonwood Canyon to the Park City area and found silver. As the snow was swirling and a storm brewing, they marked the outcropping with a bandanna on a stick and returned in the spring. Park City population approached 10,000 during 1898, then in 1951 Park City was included in a book called “Ghost Towns of the West” indicating nearly no population. I imagine most of the properties in town were for sale at that time. Park City Mining Co. started the ski business in 1963, when they built the first lifts on what was then called Treasure Mountain and a ski lift pass was $2.50.
